The Indian Epilepsy Association, Jharkhand State branches, Ranchi Chapter observed National Epilepsy Day on 17th November 2007 and on this occasion a Continued Medical Education (CME) was organized on the theme "Epilepsy: Identification and Management" at one of the most prestigious institute for mental health which also happen to be the leading centre for neuroscience research in India, The Central Institute of Psychiatry, under the privileged patronage of Dr. H.P. Narayan, Past President of Indian Epilepsy Association, Ranchi Chapter who has been driving the association on his able back leaping new heights. The CME was held on 18th November 2007 which was attended by more than 150 delegates from Ranchi and the whole eastern region. The CME for the first time received academic inputs from eminent neurologists, psychiatrists and neurosurgeons from Ranchi, Kolkata and nearby centers. Many delegates opted to become life and ordinary members of Indian Epilepsy Association.

Following formal inauguration and introductory lecture by the organizing secretary Dr. Sayeed Akhtar, CMO, CIP, Ranchi introducing the theme, the CME saw deliberations from eminent psychiatrist and epileptologist Prof S. Haque Nizamie, Director, CIP who spoke on diagnosis and classification of epilepsy and famous neurologist Dr. Sudhir Ranjan who shared his views on differential diagnosis and investigation in epilepsy in the first session. The following session was dedicated to special issues which were wonderfully dealt by eminent speakers from Kolkata Dr. Kalyan Bhattacharya who spoke on newer anticonvulsants and President of Association of Neurologists of Eastern India, Prof Arabinda Mukherjee who dealt with the epilepsy in women. The concluding deliberation was rendered by eminent neurosurgeon Dr. H.P. Narayan who spoke on post traumatic epilepsy. All the sessions also received inputs from eminent chairpersons who successfully graced the occasion with their enlightening remarks. The sessions saw active participation from the floor and concluded with lunch at the venue.

This was followed by the Annual General Body Meeting which was attended by the members of Indian Epilepsy association. The meeting was chaired by the President, Prof. S.Haque Nizamie who urged for important changes in the functioning of the chapter. This was followed by the election of the office bearers where Prof. Nizamie was elected as the president again. Prof V.K.Sinha from CIP was elected as the vice-president and Dr Sayeed Akhtar and Dr. Masroor Jahan were asked to continue as secretary and treasurer respectively. A new executive committee was elected and this was followed by the secretary's and treasurer's reports. The meeting concluded with a pledge to strengthen the base and functioning of society and to extend the services to the realms of common people suffering from epilepsy.
