National Epilepsy Day celebrations by Hyderabad chapter of IEA

On the occasion of National Epilepsy Day 17th November an Epilepsy Awareness programme was conducted on behalf of Indian Epilepsy society at Public gardens, nampally by IEA Hyderabad chapter. The inauguration was done by Dr.S.Sitajayalakshmi, Dr S.Shanmukhi and Dr Ramesh Konanki with a balloon release along with 200 school children and 10 teachers. An awareness regarding National epilepsy day and epilepsy was provided to school children and teachers.

The programme started with introduction and counselling on the importance of Epilepsy awareness and knowledge to family members and patients. More than 60 families participated in the meeting. Later painting competition was held for epilepsy children and all children were given certificates for participation. Children were subdivided into two groups according to age and 1st and 2nd prizes of trophy were given to both groups of children.

Patients and Family members were given education on specific topics on epilepsy. The topics were covered by Dr S.Shanmukhi and Dr Ramesh Konanki on children with epilepsy, dos & don'ts in epilepsy, epilepsy - career and employment and epilepsy & pregnancy. Later queries and doubts on these issues were clarified to family members & patients.

On this occasion 300 government school teachers were provided knowledge on Psychosocial issues and Stigma in epilepsy by Dr S.Shanmukhi and Medical issues and Teachers role in epilepsy by Dr Ramesh Konanki. A power point presentation on dos and don'ts of epilepsy was shown to all the teachers.
