Indian Epilepsy Assocaition observed the National Epilepsy Day jointly, R. Madhavan Nayar, Center for Comprehensive Epilepsy Care and Epilepsy Self Help Group, Trivandrum by arranging a Painting Competition for children with epilepsy and organizing a public function in the Achutha Menon Centre Auditorium, In SCTIMST on 19/11/2008.

The public function was presided by Dr.K. Radhakrishnan, Senior Professor and Head Neurology, SCTIMST He highlighted the need for creating more awareness among persons with epilepsy, their families and the general public about epilepsy. He pointed out that epilepsy is an eminently treatable condition and gave a detailed account of different treatment modalities, including surgical facilitates available for epilepsy.

Dr. N. Jayadevan , Director, Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority (KSLMA)in the Keynote address he gave a motivating talk encouraging the patients and their care givers to lead a normal life in spite of epilepsy. . He also assured that he will include epilepsy as a component of large scale health literacy program being implemented by KSLMA in kerala.

Dr.D.Jayachandran, Secretary, Epilepsy Association formally welcomed the audience and Mr. V.S.S. Nair , Vice-President Epilepsy Self Help Group proposed a formal vote of thanks.

Mrs Lincy Philip, Occupational Therapist, Epilepsy program SCTIMST gave a talk on " Vocational Rehabilitation of persons with epilepsy. About 200 persons with epilepsy and their family members attended the program.

This function was followed by a painting competition for children with epilepsy in the age groups of 5-10 years and 11-15 years. Twenty children with epilepsy participated in the painting competition

The winners of the painting completion were given prizes by Prof M.D.Nair Professor Neurology , SCTIMST. The film titled the 'Untold Story developed' by Epilepsy Partnership India was presented to the audience
